THE NEED
To understand the flow methods, patterns and flow stagnation in stent design to regulate blood flow.


SOLUTION PROVIDED
We have teamed up with Doctors to design and study the effects and failures of stents. A stent is a small flexible metallic tube with an elastic design to open a blocked artery. Engineers consulted Doctors to design a stent based on application usages. And the failure of the stent mostly caused due to restenosis which development of new tissues in the stent region. Hence performing CFD analysis has become vital.
AS A RESULT,
CFD results provided a better insight into understanding the correlation between the flow pattern and stent design and strut spacing. The CFD results were exported extrapolated to the surface of the stent design to calculate the total wall shear and total deformation in the design.
These results helped to validate the strut spacing, curvature, orientation, and material selection which would help towards reducing restenosis.
