THE NEED

Forces on the Hip Implants caused by human activity cause dynamic stress on the components, resulting in premature fracture, or fatigue failure of the implanted components. Every time an implant fails, it must be custom made. To avoid frequent implant changes, the components used must withstand its structural integrity for a long time. The best way to increase the life, reliability and structural integrity of the components is by finding a better alternative in terms of materials used. In terms of design and material used.

SOLUTION PROVIDED

Quadrant’s engineering team has connected with multiple suppliers in the quest of finding various available biomaterials in the market. Then, we performed an FEA analysis to evaluate the fatigue life of the component if manufactured using those materials. Since these components are meant to withstand a higher count of fatigue cycles, it’s important to perform complex fatigue analysis. The analysis team also performed a parametric analysis of the component with different available material, including composite analysis with various fiber orientations to find the perfect balance between the material, component design and total cost of the implant.

AS A RESULT,

We have found the right material and design to manufacture hip implants that can withstand much longer than the traditional design and materials.
