THE NEED
Head injuries are common nowadays among Cyclists and motorcycle riders. Hence, it’s essential to develop safer yet lighter helmet designs for cyclists and motorcycle riders. Also, the design should be aerodynamically efficient and should have minimal drag, that’s friendly for normal usage as well as in racing.


SOLUTION PROVIDED
Instead of employing common materials used in the manufacturing of these helmets, we used carbon fibers or composite materials to increase strength while reducing the weight. With the overall design and outlook of the proper product in place, the analysis team has evaluated the design for composite material failure.
In addition to the analysis of static and dynamic analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamic analysis is performed on these designs to find the effect of wind at high acceleration speeds. Wind effects on these helmets are significant which plays an important role in aerodynamic and drag effects for the racers. Hence it was important to check the drag created at the surface to check for draft angle in these helmets as well as aerodynamic profile.
AS A RESULT,
These wind effects causing wall shear and surface pressure are accurately measured, which contribute to the integrity and life of the helmet. Therefore, these loads were also accurately captured in the static analysis by transferring the CFD loads to static and fatigue analysis of the helmet structure.
