To find the feedback from the car’s side door when subjected to an impact. The door is made out of sheet metal and held using spot weld.
The placement of the inner beams, high plasticity steel, and the size were the optimizable parameters to minimize intrusion into the passenger compartment during a collision. The main challenge is to reduce the intrusion from the side impact resulting from the limited space of the structure to absorb the impact energy. Varying thickness internal tubes and internally ribbed tubes were also used in this analysis to find the result due to impact.
